I think that we DEFINITELY need to have a contingency plan for rain. I haven't been to Lake Belton since I was about ten years old, I'd love for it to be there.

My $0.02,

Will the site have AC power? If so, I will bring a complete set of W123 and OM 615 616 617 manuals, including TSB's and Star Articles of diesel interest, along with a small copier.

Bill:

I assume by your last reply that you are not going to also look at McKinney this weekend as you suggested in an earlier email? I am in the process of rebuilding the engine on my 300D and wanted to get as close to done with it this weekend so I could R&R the engines next week - so it would be very inconvenient for me to make a trip to Austin this weekend. Since I have been to McKinney I can tell all they have dining hall/recreational facilities and electricity at the camp sites (and also according to the info furnished by TX Parks and Wildlife). Bill, if you can't check out McKinney then can someone else who lives close by?

Tom

P.S.
What happened to the spell check function?

Greg:

If you could check out McKinney, I am sure Bill would appreciate it since he would be able to avoid a 1-2 hour trip to check it out - and so would I since I'm busy this weekend, much less avoiding a 150 mi. round trip for me to go there. In addition to the group facilities, please check out the site at the falls - I know there is at least one picnic table if not two and, as I recall, a small grill on a stand (not very large or good). Thanks a lot for your help.

Bill:

I hope you read Greg's offer to help out with checking on the McKinney Falls Park so you can avoid a trip through Austin. I did not mean for you to have to check out McKinney also, but I did not realize you wanted to take a vote/poll on Monday. Otherwise, I or someone else (like Greg) would make plans to check on McKinney.

I hope this all works out so no one is being inconvienced.

Tom

I'm open to anyplace. Just say where.

I've been thinking. If I don't get the car healthy by then, I was considering trailering it down to get a whole lot of input in person on the possible problems with mine. Is this idea out of line with what is being planned?

My cars "symptoms" just don't seem to make a whole lot of sense, and I don't want to open it up unless it's a last resort.

I will go to McKinney and check it out soon. I was hoping to wait until a sunny day and take the digital camera to share pics for yall's consideration/amusement. I have company today but if weather is even partly reasonable I will post pics by tomorrow noon (sunday).
I think the idea of someone towing their car to the meet is great. I had thought of doing that myself.
Having the copier available is a wonderful idea and I will bring all my mb factory shop manuals also.
I know a nice independant (but trained) mechanic (Subaru/Mercedes) [don't laugh , that is my favorite combo ] whose wife owns a w123 wagon like mine. Would we provide their lunch for having his brain to pick ?

Speaking of lunch.... ( no wonder I am 270 # ) , I will fix the fire box on my cooker and bring it if it sounds like yall are interested in that...

Other combinations might be , if they have grills there, me bring mesquite to make coals...
I know where the best BarBQue I have ever tasted is available...not in Elgin...but in Manor 8 miles away... but he is not open on Sundays... if yall want me to get you sausage or brisket (melt in your mouth) I will pick it up for you in seperate packages with your name on it. If it is not the best you ever tasted (tell me before you finish it LOL) and I will refund your money. I am not making anything off the deal....just enjoy sharing good tasting food....

Also, if anyone just wants to bring their own meat I will have the coals hot in the firebox at an agreed upon time...there is also a movable box for those that want direct heat... probably only foreigners would do that.... You can not believe how good plain ole hamburger meat is when done over mesquite coals.

We have about 6 weeks to work out the details, yall speak up about preferences...

I have a special request (pun intended) ... will everyone that can bring all their special mb tools? I will have measureing tools available and graph paper...the prices on the mb tools are high (understatement of the day) and as welder/blacksmith with small atlas lathe and Burke mill I think I can duplicate some of them if I have the specs on them.... Thanks, Greg

OK, have posted pictures at Photoisland.com, use Leathermang in first box.... Mercedes as password... If this is acceptable location reservations need to be called in in the morning, one person can reserve the hall...March is their busy month. Entry will be $2 per person over 12 years.... fishing ,swimming , hiking is available.... the Dining Hall costs $75 to reserve for 8 am to 10 pm. That also reserves the adjacent parking lot. The place looks very nice to me..They promised leaves would be on the trees.... Greg

It would help me greatly if it were further North so I could spend more time, but if this is where everyone wants it, I will be there for at least and hour or two.

Thanks for putting everything together.

Have a great day,
