It may be better, the poll has not started yet...LOL....
Larry, when this discussion started you had two problems. If the first had not worked out we could have had this meeting IN your hometown and you not be able to attend.... I am glad your schedule appears to allow you to attend AT ALL. If you don't think your 'thespian' skills would allow you to pull off the ' I am going to pick up bread and milk ' routine then perhaps you might consider making it a two day event, camping at a campsite marked on the map as 1 to 8 , which are just across the hiking trail from the Dining hall. That would not affect the 'are we there yet' coming this direction, but they might be so tired on the trip back that they would simply sleep. This seems to be a low key children oriented park with plenty of healthly nature oriented activities for kids... The only other consolation , should this wind up the site, is that we know you had to come a long distance and will only be there a short time and you can be King during that time... we will see that no short distance riffraff give you any lip while you are here. I suggest waiting until Bill has a chance to post his info from Lake Belton before folks start making hard decisions. I know that I suggested McKinney and it is centrally located, but so is Lake Belton - when you look at Texas and realize that it is about 900 miles the long way either going north-south or east-west. Ideally, it would be great if no one had to travel more than 200 miles so they would not have to drive a long time in one day and could spend more time at the meet instead of driving most of the day. The reality is that keeping the longest drive to about 300 hundred miles is closer to reality. For Larry up in Sumner (just outside of Paris) going to Austin is about 300 miles and Temple is about 230 miles (at least a 2 hours driving time difference, provided traffic/construction cooperates). The next longest travel distance is dann from Corpus, Corpus to Temple is about 255 miles and 192 miles to Austin. So, right now Larry has the longest distance to travel if the meet is in Austin and close to the longest distance if the meet is in Temple. But, we may have folks coming from even farther away that we do not know about. So, let's wait a bit and see what's going on with Bill and others that may want to come (remember, it was suggested that an invite to all members in Texas go out and they will have their suggestions - even if they are presented a complete intineray for the meet).
My $0.02 worth! Tom

Bill, Glad you got back to a computer ... I was getting worried... the lady at the front desk did say reserve fast... I just called and they are closed today...open at 9 am 22 jan.
Guess you have not had a chance to see my pictures and descriptions on Photoisland.com... I only suggested 95 when someone mentioned avoiding Austin traffic... Slow due to curving roads and a couple of small towns is sometimes more pleasant than slow due to bumper to bumper traffic. Also I was thinking originally about a place called McKinney Rough,,, an LCRA nature trail .... which is over here east of Austin on 71... It is not affiliated with Mckinney State Park... which is off of 183 about even with Austin Bergstrom Airport.... I think a Senior member should go on the other boards, like someone suggested, and invite everyone that wants to come and try to get a firmer count..... If 300 cars are coming we may still be looking for a place to have it.... LOL...Greg |

Bill:
What about the cabins at McKinney? You wrote they looked nice, could hold us if it rained, and some had BBQ pits, and other amenities. Are any of them available and how much do they cost? Tom

BILL, OUCH, Dont' blame you for not copying there!
I ran downtown and took pics of the Elgin City park... it is bigger and nicer than I remembered... it is probably like the open pavilion at Temple without the winds due to being on the lake... All of this is really just a plot to get you to use hwy 95, as Bill figured out earlier LOL.... I will load the pics right now... same place (photoisland, leathermang, mercedes for password),etc.. but two albums will be available to click on ...It has several pits and I will plan on bringing mine... except that Elgin is famous for Sausage and Barbque ... will talk about that more later... This place is $25 for the day or $40 with electricity... I think the copier idea is great..I would like to see the TSBs and Star mag.... Yall say whatever you think outloud so we can accomodate as many people as possible.. maybe we can fix some complaints before hand... Greg |
