99 e300d - stuck trunk

I'm in a REAL bad pinch... I'm supposed to leave in two days on a family trip in my e300d, but suddenly today the trunk won't open.

- button on the center console doesn't do anything
- button on the keyless entry doesn't do anything
- trunk button doesn't do anything

The key slot in the trunk button has NEVER been used since I bought the car (3 years) and I can't even get the key in it. I have a feeling the central lock isn't unlocking the trunk... any ideas?!

Well try a thread here...
https://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=189079

I fixed the problem fairly easily with the help of the ETM DVD.

If anyone runs into this problem in the future this is what you need to do:

Remove the rear seat cushion to access the battery area. Next to the battery is the locking system control module. Find the yellow/red wire and snip it in an area where you have enough room to strip and re-crimp it. If you just pull a little extra for slack this is easy to do.

Once the wire is clipped it will "see" the trunk as closed since the switch will no longer be sinking the voltage through the switch. The central locking system will then open the trunk with no problems. When trunk is opened, reconnect the wire with a butt connector.

Link in article does not work for diagram, others may be able to assist, but this should be a start.

Did you try turning the mechanical key to the left? Counterclockwise

So, if you unlock all the doors, the push button doesn't work?

thanks guys, I think I figured it out... the vacuum line that UNLOCKS the trunk is leaking. I disconnected the line and applied vacuum, it just keeps sucking & sucking. So, the trunk is not unlocking, that's why none of the openers work

Unfortunately, the key hasn't been used in the trunk since I bought the car, and when I tried pushing it in, the center of the lock pushed right through.

I saw that... in that case it seems that the red light was staying on because it thought the trunk was open... mine isn't doing that. Will try it anyway, just in case

there's a diesel tank, and a veggie tank, saying otherwise.

now that the key cartridge has popped out, is there any lever, tab or something I can push, pull, twist to unlatch the trunk?
