All brass radiators ?

Are these available for my 240d , 1980 ?
Had they already switched to plastic tops by 1980 ?
Were they available on special order for 240d ,1980 ?

Am I going to have to make my own if I do not want any plastic on it ?

In the archives Larry Bible said this :

"It is a 123 chassis, with the early 616 engine of the ones used in the 123 family. As far as I've seen the 80 model year was split with some early cars having the earlier engine and the late 80 cars having the later engine. The early engine had about 3 less HP.

Your car also probably has a brass radiator, loop type glow plugs (which are commonly converted to pin type,) the Chrysler climate control unless you are lucky and have manual a/c controls, cast door straps instead of the later flimsy stamped sheet metal ones, a two cylinder York type compressor mounted on the passenger side upper, and probably an 85 MPH speedometer.".

Notice the reference to Brass Radiator... so I was hoping that my exact body/engine style did at one time have brass radiators made for it...

two of my 123's had brass radiators in them, and one of the 126's had one. I sold the 126 with the radiator in it. I still have one I think for the 240... I'll check.

I've seen brass radiators in a couple salvage-yard 240Ds. I believe the brass 240D radiator I got last year from an "81 240D in the Virgiia Bach Pick-N-Pull, is an aftermarket Taiwan unit.

Happy Motoring, Mark

A friend of the family's works on foreign cars. He ordered it from one of his parts suppliers. I believe I paid around $90 for it.

I have to look at what my 81 has, but it is OE with a filler on top of the radiator and no expansion tank. I think it is brass...

I've got a CSF all brass rad in my 126. It's got a lifetime warranty and after 4 years in the Florida heat, no problems.

I'll send an email to the guy that got my 126 brass radiator, and ask him to send me a pic.
