I got rearended right when I was getting everything perfect...

Well I was rear ended today by a girl at my school. I was stopped and she hit me doing 20-25. Damage is pretty narly, passenger door doesnt close very well and quarter panel was buckled pretty well. Pictures dont do much justice to all of the creases and bends in the metal, plus the trunk lid is now an inch away from the fender. Gonna be next week before I find out if shes totaled or not. It just sucks because Ive spent so much time and money getting her right.:(

Looks driveable to me. Pocket the money and keep driving it. In the early 80's I had a nice 71 Impala which was hit at 65mph when it was at a standstill. Used a jack to get things partly back in place, drove the car for about 4 years and used the money as part of a downpayment on a house.

It is driveable, I drove it home and it seemed ok. However I think its bad enough that insurance company will total it as kbb value is $4700 and this is gonna need alot of qaurter work and paint and its been wrecked before I bought it. If it totals out then I plan to buy back and pocket money, otherwise Im going to let em fix it and demand it be done right.

Sorry

ashedd 03-24-2011 09:33 PM

That pisses ME off. I wanted that car, at least you are ok. If they total it, ask what the buy back is.

1977busman 03-24-2011 09:46 PM

I plan to buy it back no matter what well as long as its under $1500.

vstech 03-24-2011 10:12 PM

it can be straightened, by a MB shop only. that's not fender damage, it's crumple zone damage... could be a lot worse.

What a bummer! Was the girl texting?

pawoSD 03-24-2011 10:54 PM

My dad had the same thing happen to one of his SD's. Body shop did basic work and pulled it back out on their fancy pulling machine. Cost about $600, and his looked worse than that before they worked on it! Could barely tell afterward. Fix it!

That car is like the diesel clone of our 300E. Same exact color!

I just either want money for a replacement or to have it fixed right...

The girl is 17 and had 4 other kids in her grand pix that the power steering pump was out, which is why she claims she hit me, but we were driving straight so there was no reason to be turning. And why in the world are you driving it when you have absolutely no power steering????

Will keep you posted on what ends up happening with the mercedes.

Sorry. My 83 got it a LOT worse than that and the girl who hit me never even paid up (nor Progressive insrance). They turned it into a JURY trial to force bleeding and thus settlement. Pretty lousy.

Good luck with this. Take the at fault driver to the cleaners... Unfortunately getting screwed on stuff like this is one of the risks with the older high mileage cars.

I got hit in the parking lot few months ago and got two of my doors damaged on 2006 LEXUS. The driver did not speak english and had no driver license and the car was insured to his friend. It was some bogus insurance company and I had to pay for damage out of my pocket. The cop did not even gave him a ticket even though he was illegal and had no driver license, she said it was private parking lot and could not arrest him :confused:

So why didn't the cop wait for him to leave the parking lot, then arrest him? :D

His friend (registered owner) drove away.

What do you do for this? You probably don't even have a name for the other driver. You *should* be able to sue the owner of the car for negligence though. At least you could recover *something* if you managed to get the License Plate Number.
