76 300D fuel consumption
I'm getting about 22mpg but I have a lead foot (no choice with this, it doesn't move otherwise).
Does that seem about right?

High 20's for mixed city/hwy driving. If your all city driving and you have a lead foot, you could get it down to 22 if you tried real hard.
If you bought it on e-Bay, it should be getting 30 - 35mpg. If you bought it on CL, it should be getting 35 - 45 mpg. They couldn't post it if it wasn't true.

22 sounds a little low, but if you're driving your 115 hard your mileage will suffer. The typical things to check to increase you mileage is, tire pressure, tire alignment, air filter, fuel filters, valve adjustment, dragging brakes, dragging parking brakes. High blends of biodiesel will also bring down your mileage, B99 is causes a 7-10% loss in mileage

Based upon my experience with the 115 chassis the best you could hope for is about 25 MPG so getting 22, while a little low isn't out of the question. If you're running A/C then that's another issue and sucks down 1-2 MPG. People will claim all sorts of great mileage but the fact is with a slushbox and the N/A 5 cylinder engine I don't think you will ever see sustained mileage in the high 20s. Compared to what else was on the road in the 70's 22-25 MPG was nearly miraculous for a full sized sedan but it's downright wasteful today at $4 per gallon since you can easily find gas powered alternative which will beat your cost per mile by a wide margin.
Basic rules apply, assume your valves are properly adjusted, fuel and air filters are serviced properly, brakes aren't dragging then you are where you are.

Sounds right to me. I get 24mpg in an 85TD and the turbo is supposed to get slightly better mileage.

Al that's a little low, but still within reason. I get about 24-25 MPG in my 76 300D, however i have gotten 28 MPG 2 or 3 times. Of course it really depends how hard you run it.

1982 300D Turbo Diesel
I have tracked my mileage since I bought my car in November, so it has been cold since I have owned the car. My low was 19 mpg and my high is 23 mpg. Mostly city driving with an occassional run on the highway. I'm hoping for some improvement as things warm up.

Thanks guys, I might be due for a valve adjustment. The car has ran great in the past but we had a cold snap (48 degrees) and it was a little tough to start this morning.

A valve adjustment is always a good place to start for a lot performance related problems.
It's also important to keep in mind that the mileage from one tank of fuel to another can vary quite a bit. Especially if you have fuel attendants filling your tank like we do here in Oregon. But even if you do your own fill ups and are very consistent about where you fill to, your driving habits are rarely the same for every tank. It's best to watch it over several tanks and see where you are on average rather than one tank. I kept records with my wagon for 2 years before I sold it. I got as much a 26.6mpg and as little at 19mpg. The overall average was 24.6mpg.

Pencil glowplugs will greatly improve cold starts. I made a pretty good thread when i replaced my plugs and relay.

22-25mpg was achieved driving a rather brutal mix of freeway and city driving while in LA.
