Small Water Pump Outlet Hose Question

Doing a water pump replacement and was wondering if I need to pull outlet in order to R&R small 40mm hose that is 2-3 inch long. If I pull outlet, I suppose there is a required gasket (which I do not have) Anyone done this recently and without removing outlet as well? This is on the OM617 engine '82 300 SD. Thanks Forum!

Not as I recall, if you don't disturb the water pump housing.

I believe you might have misunderstood my post -I know that I do not have to pull small hose but want to while also doing water pump. My question is can I pull small outlet hose without removing outlet from block. Anyone know?

You need to remove the thermostat housing from the head. Paper gasket required.

It's a really easy job, especially when the cooling system is already drained.

Yep, but weekend and no gasket! I think the small hose was actually replaced about 5 years ago so I will proceed without removing outlet/hose after inspection of the small hose for bulging etc. - thanks! Now it looks like one of my pump bolts is missing -down in the Harmonic balancer I suppose . . . .
