i chopped out my alternator harness and tore it apart and it was VERY corroded inside, so i suspect this is the little devil that has been haunting me for awhile....
i got a good tip from member hangit who recommended to just use large spade connectors on the end of the wires instead of the harness, since thats what inside the harness to begin with...! brilliant! so thats what i did- 2 large connectors and 1 small connector- crimped them on the ends of the chopped wires and connected them to the back of the alternator and...... !voila! i'm now getting 13.6 V at the battery when running!

i've been driving it for a couple days and it seems to be charging the battery fine and starting fine,,, so i (hope) problem solved! and just in time, since my other 240D decided to have an injector go out the same day someday i will actually have 2 240's that work at the same time..!!
thanks for everybody's help, hopefully this thread is closed

Van battery not charging both battery and alt. test good.

I am having the same issue with my 2002 ford e150 completely stumped i have tried most of these test and found no answer to my problems. Did you ever replace your alt pig connector and did that work?

Since the charging system is dramatically different between anything mercedes and your ford truck, I'm not sure why you joined the forum here...

That said... The truck likely does not have anything like this connector on it...

Take pics of the alternator connections and post them... Maybe we can find something randomly that will solve your truck charging problem.
