I take it the dealer where you are needs a Euro 300D vin# in order to find the cross member? Where did you get the $50 price?

actually they wanted to see a current registration with a euro vin. I tried to give them the VIN but they said no way. $50 was what I paid for the wrong one from Germany. Part number W123 242 28 01, I didnt think they would be so different in price. I do not understand MB numbering, not sure if the part number you got was a different part or an uprev part.

Its incredible that they would choose to be such pains in the A$$ for something this old and obscure. Why should they demand a current registration for petes sake? Who's to say its not a titleless parts car in your field? Or a customers car you are working on, ect?
I hate dealerships

the explaination I got, was that third world countries try to buy parts in the US and ship them becuase the parts are cheaper here. Souneds like total BS to me, but those Germans are nothing if not stubborn rule followers they should be happy to sell them, but there it is. Just a little common sense would say that buying 1 at a time wasnt going to make or braek anyone for money

Im pretty sure its not the driveshaft as the vibes are not speed related but gear and RPM dependent

now I have a different engine, new motor mounts, a 300D flywheel and a new transmission. Im hopefully optomistic it will be OK. I did not match balance the flywheel but I did have it neutral balanced. If it seems like an issue later Ill yank it out and get it matched to the new engine flex plate. I want to make sure the new engine os OK first before I go drilling my 300D flywheel
a pinion --driveline angle issue you mean.

lol, I can't believe that they said this to you! Even if this is the case, whats the problem? The part is still being bought, last I checked, it wasn't illegal to look for the best deal you could get. I didn't realize that you were not allowed to make an international purchase on a part!

My response would have been, "and so? whats wrong with someone buying the part here, and shipping it out of the country? Isn't a large part of international commerce based on the same concept?"

What a bunch of outrageous and unprofitable red tape.

Sounds like a lazy barstard in the spares department. i buy all my mercedes parts from the USA, and I'm in Australia! . I buy them from the classic center and other dealers and have never heard of that problem before. If you have the correct part number for a crossmember any mercedes dealer simply orders the part on oine and it's delivered to them no matter where it is sourced from. Some of the Mercedes guys here in Australia import part from Singapore .

Lutz.....Seems like parts for Euro cars in the USA have now been what they call "com blocked" (by MB) meaning they are NOT available from MB here in the states. Sorry, I tried.

from what I understand from my MB dealer, if you have a currently registered euro using the required part they will order it. If you are willing, could you ask the local dealer to see if they will indeed order it? They will take an order over the phone, but they will ask for your registration to prove you have the car here.
