Rattle in steering wheel from 2500-3200rpm (w123)

Been tracking down a rattle, thought it was my shift bushing again, but I finally tracked it down when I was accelerating with my hand lightly on the steering wheel allowing it to shake more than normal.

It rattles as soon as the turbo kicks in, and stops around 3200 rpm, it rattles louder if I take my hand off of the wheel, but still rattles if I am holding it, albiet lightly.

Is there a bushing or screw I can tighten in there?

I cant feel it, I can hear it thought. It seems as if holding the wheel moves it enough that something inside stops clattering around.

Maybe a loose screw in the horn mounts. Look at funola's thread about his cell phone mount for pics of the interior.

Or a loose bolt on the top of the steering column bracket. There are two bolts that hold the column up. I think you can see them if you pull the cluster.

Or maybe miscellaneous debris in the area, like a coin or a washer. Pulling the steering wheel should be a straightforward task to inspect. Keep in mind the plastic collar is a one-piece glued, not a two-piece snapped, unit and needs the wheel to be removed.

Does the rattle go away / reduce when you lightly hold the horn push?
