fuel filter line leak

Hello,
81 240d 195k miles.

Today I had a mechanic replace the oil filter housing gasket. On the way home I filled the car up for the first time since I have owned the car.
When I arrived home I opened the hood to make sure the housing leak was gone but I smelled diesel.
I noticed the rubber fuel fillter line had diesel on it.

Would the mechanic have taken it off when he removed the oil filter housing? Or do these cars leak when you fill them up?

Or maybe it was all a coincidence?

jake

Probably & No.

He may have just wrenched near it & damaged the end . Easiest fix is to cut 1" off the end of the hose, if there is enough flex in the hose & reconnect it. Alt, chances are the hoses need replacing, so do the lot.

These cars are not supposed to leak diesel.

I'd soak everything with engine degreaser, let it soak for a little while (consult the instructions on the can) and rinse well. then lubricate ALL the linkage balls, then go for a drive. inspect the car for fuel residue THEN I'd replace any lines that diesel fuel on them.
