Source of Vacuum problems

Discovered this while working on removing my pump...

Based on the cars vacuum problems, this probably failed over 30,000 miles ago. Well, time to find a closed bearing pump.

ouch.
I'd say it's time to find the bearings, and replace the pump, and the ramp surface... with those flat spots, I'd wager the ramp is destroyed...

Ramp looked okay, but I'll have to look again.

Did the 90-93 OM602s have the closed bearing pumps? I have a spare 91 vacuum pump down in Cincinnati.

I don't think any of the cars came with closed bearing pumps. they were a superseded part with improvements after the fact. be sure and inspect the timing gears under the chain for wear, it's a recalled item that will fail if it's neglected.

you may have Won This Year's...

Luckiest Mercedes Owner's Award.

Your Vacuum Pump's Parts have gone astray...
AND NOT INTO YOUR CHAIN OR OIL PUMP!!!

(Run out and Buy MANY $1.00 Lottery Tickets!)

VT is correct , Your "Ramps" are Screwed...No Need to even "Look".

The Replacement Vacuum Pumps SHOULD have come with Bearing cages.
(Look At that '91 you've got laying around)

['Me? I'll NEVER put anything BUT a BRAND New Mercedes VP on an Engine!]

Bare in mind the cars vacuum situation hasnt changed in 60-70,000 miles (the PO is a close friend) so this car has been run 130mph with 12 ball bearings somewhere in the motor, though we both change the oil every 3k (no need to give opinions on intervals) so hopefully a few escaped over the years.

I will look at my spare 91, my spare 87 is an open one, with play in it so no bueno there.

I really don't want to drop $314 on a new one.
