OM617 mated to different Trans

Hey everyone. Love the forum. Tons of info. I just picked up an om617 with 85k on the clock. Its going into my jeep cherokee. I was hoping some of the pros here would have the dimensions of the rear of the engine. I have to fab an adapter plate to make my trans fit the diesel. So I guess I would be looking for the crank centerline to MB trans adapter bolt hole distances.

there is already a trans adapter plate on the OM617. Best bet would be to get the current adapter to spot the 6 holes that attach it to the block and to get the starter hole dimension. Then you could fab a plate to replace it for your intended transmission

pistonhead,
Welcome to the forum!!! We are all keen to help as much as we can.
I wish you luck getting that sort of information.
Are you adapting to the manual or auto jeep?
I believe the diesel jeep has a different trans to the petrol one.
Sorry I cant help any more.
Next Question !!!

My non turbo OM617 is still out and on an engine stand - I'm half way through rebuilding a 722.118 transmission - what do ya want?

(Please note I'm happy to help - but I'm a slow mover! Don't expect instant answers)

PS welcome to the forum

PPS there is a fairly recent thread regarding an OM617 throttle linkage in a Toyota (I think) - search for that may be the author of that thread has dimensions

This is an interesting point. Is the OP's jeep "fly by wire? Mine is, no throttle links to be found. All electronic. When it goes wrong I will be chasing you down Army for advice on the electronics.

Not only are the bolt holes important, The length of the TC (assuming its an auto) will be important.

Search the forum. Someone has posted here in the past who has a 617 in a Cherokee. There's probably info in his postings about what transmission he used and how he adapted it.

Thanks for all of the replies! My jeep is a 95 with the 5.2 v8. I realized I need to get the crank centerline-to-bellhousing bolt hole measurements off of my current engine to build the plate since I already have the om617 to measure from.

I do have some other questions though>

What should the fuel inlet pressure be to the IP from the lift pump?
Are these engine internally balanced or externally?
What is the the factory setting for the turbo(psi)?
Whats should the average oil pressure be (idle and cruise)?

Check with Funola on the LP pressure.
some are internally balanced, some are externally... have the flywheel on the motor you have checked by a machine shop.
IIRC the turbo is set to max out at 11psi
average oil pressure is likely going to be 60psi. it'll go over 100, and under 20 though.
