Smile 98 E300D 2 of 4 AC vents blowing HOT others COLD??

HI Guys,

2 of 4 AC vents blowing HOT others COLD??

98 W210 E300D

I have something I haven’t run across before... When Im running the AC Half of my Vents are blowing warm and the others are ICE COLD.

I pulled the tiny pistons out of the housing (that the rad lines go through) in the engine bay (passenger side) since I read that it could be stuck. They were not stuck. Put them back in put a bit of Freon in it but didn’t really need it.

Its getting HOT in FLORIDA now and would love to have all vents blowing ICE COLD!!! HAHA

I understand there is some kind of hoses or assembly under the back seat? Assuming I did everything right above...

What do I try next???

Thanks Chris

Engine on and at op temp, AC set to 72. Press and hold REST for 5 secs. Use AUTO buttons to toggle through first 8 screens. Post that data.

Had the same problem, and it was no more than a charge. Yet, pull the data as Terry says. I had to do that eventuially as a sensor in the evap was misreading things.

Ok that was kinda weird...

I followed the steps.

I had one code on the left side and another on the right

1-05
2-94
3-62
4-50
5-43
6-17.2
7-10.3
8-10.5
9-30
10-.9
11-3.2
12-4.3

then it goes up to 22 then jumps to 40 with different codes.

What does all that mean??

#1 is exterior temp. Was it 105F or 5C when you did this?

#6 is coolant temp. You did not let your engine warm up first.

3,4 & 5 are refrigerant temps. L/R & Evap. Left is warm which may be because the engine was just turned on prior to pulling the AC values. You should do them again.

Go here and pull your error codes from the AC system.

Exclamation

HI,

I went to get the numbers again and though I never really noticed it the right hand side of the AC panel doesnt have all the digital "arms/legs" to the read out.

This is why my numbers dont make much sense. I have read outs like backwards "C" ect. Some just look like 'I's"

Any "BEST GUESS" why the left side vents are blowing warm and the right side ones are blowing quite cold with the AC on??

Love to try something that doesnt envolve me tearing out the dashboard. HAHA

Low refrigerant fill, a restriction in the system, or the presence of air in the system.

Get the system evacuated and recharged to weight, and see how it performs. If it is still not working properly, or if the high-side pressure is too high, there is a restriction.

The Freon level is fine and I swapped out the AC unit in the dash to see if that was the problem.

Nope still had the problem.

I have narrowed it down to the Heater Core unit next to the Big black Emssions unit on the left side of the engine bay.

Kind of a bear to get that out.. Any ideas?

thanks

You claim the fill is good which means you had it evacuated and recharged, Right? Thats the only way to know for sure......

You are prob low on refrig, or the duo-valve may be sticking. Duo-valve is the lil twin tower unit inside the emissions box. "Kartek" showed how to rebuild one in a thread. Step one is to whack it with a screwdriver handle a couple of times.

I vote for the duo-valve half stuck open.
