Didn`t you post cutting a hole in the back of the light assy, and installing truck LED light this past year? seems like I remember reading something along those lines.

I did the 4 brake light mod on the 240D, 300D and 300SD. I did the 300D before I discovered mercedesshop. noticed the open space, and thought is silly not to have a light in there. always wondered why it was bare. was at a MB wrecking yard, and the guy gave me a broken light assy., and inserted the sockets, and soldered up the wires. sure brightens up the rear of the car.

I think with the SD lights being verticle, it wakes up the guy behind them being in a different angle.
when I follow my wife, I need my sunglasses on.

I asked my insurance CO. if it qualified as a 3rd brake light. no dice, need one in the window.

Doesn`t matter how many lights we have, if the idiot behind is text messaging and not paying attention, you`re still screwed.

Yep, it wasn't too hard and greatly improved the visibility of the taillights

Been running these for a while now, still no problems If the brighter lamps were going to melt the lenses DC traffic would do it

Another update: Still no problems. I did have to replace one lamp that burnt out, but there has been no damage to the lenses or reflectors.

The stock replacement lamp I put in the high mount light has melted it a bit more though (One can spend a lot of time on the brakes in DC)

2 years later on the 27W reverse lights, and no problems.
