The new 85' 300D

I have been post questions about my 300D I just bought last week but never posted a pic. I am new to the Mercedes Diesels and am going to have a lot of questions about my new car. I apologize about that. Was always a large SUV guy but 8-10 mpg finally got to me. Here it is. Will be making this look as good as I can inside and out as the parts come my way.

Sweet ride! I like the color as well!

My 1980SD I just picked up. I'm new to diesels as well but I'm enjoying mine. Does yours have the 617 engine?

Is it really deserving of it's legendary status? I think it's a solid, honest engine from what I've seen. Reminds me of a tractor engine or something.

Both of you guys have a couple good looking MB`s. Yeah drinking the kool-Aid, drink deep and before you know it. a couple more mercedes will be in your driveway.

the 85 300D has the 2:88 differential, not real sur on the SD, maybe a 3:07? like the 82 - 84 300D.

Your 85 will get 3 times the milage your SUV got, you will have money falling out of your pockets now.

Here is a list of the 617.xxx engines used in the 300D w123 and W116 SD.

OM617.950
The revised OM617.950 also displaced 3.0 L but was now 2998 cc with a 90.9 mm bore and 92.4 mm stroke. Power output was 110 hp (82 kW). This engine was used in the W116 300SD from 1978 to 1980. It was the world's first turbocharged production diesel sedan and the first sedan with a 5-cylinder engine of any kind.

Mercedes-Benz OM617.95

[edit] OM617.951

The OM617.951 also displaced 2998 cc with a 90.9 mm bore and 92.4 mm stroke. Power output was 125 hp (91 kW). Torque was rated at 180 lb·ft (244 N·m).
Applications:[edit] OM617.952

The OM617.952 also displaced 2998 cc with a 90.9 mm bore and 92.4 mm stroke. Power output was 125 hp (91 kW). Torque was rated at 180 lb·ft (244 N·m).
Applications:Charlie

there were three HP ratings on the OM616...

1) Not much power
2) Even less power
3) Not nearly enough power!! 240D w/auto

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.

80 240D Naturally Exasperated, 4-Spd 388k DD 150mph spedo 3:58 Diff
