1983 300D throttle linkage.

Did Mercedes at one time mount the firewall side of the throttle linkage on the far right (as viewed from drivers position) recess? Both my 1983 and 1985 300D's have it mounted in the far left position. See the attached pics of my 1983 300D and you can see that the engine half and the firewall half of the throttle linkages don't line up right. My 1985 300D throttle linkage seems angled where it's attached to the engine and everything is in line even though it is at an angle off the engine. My 300D looks like it should be mounted in the right recess on the firewall. What gives here?

Looks to be the same as my '83 300D.

Look closely, the short stub shaft runs parallel to the length of the engine. The long shaft is 10-15 degrees off parallel. Is that how yours is? |
It's getting dark out. I'll check tomorrow.

Is it possible that the passenger side Motor Mount has collapsed? If so that would tilt/pull the Block to the right of the Car.
Transmission Mount also? Well from the pics mine also has some angle to it but not as much as the one in the first post. |

Nope, motor mounts are fine. Even if it were collapsed it wouldn't throw it off as much as mine is. Your pictures look like my '85 300D. The short stub shaft mounted to the engine is 10-15 degrees off of parallel to the length of the engine so that shaft and the long shaft mounted to the firewall are inline. My '83 300D that the pictures are from has the short stub shaft parallel to the engine so they are not inline. The long shaft mounted to the firewall is 10-15 degrees off of parallel to the length of the engine just like my '85 300D and your 300D the pictures are from. What is the other recess/mounting point for the long shaft in the firewall for? |
Upon closer inspection of the pictures and checking under the hood of my '83, I now realize that in the first photo, the rearward of the two rods on top of the valve cover isn't hooked up. On mine and in Diesel911's pics, it is.

I'm not following you. Both the short rods on top of my valve cover are hooked up just like the pics posted by Diesel911. |
You're right. I was looking at it wrong.

I did not notice until this morning that there was 2 places on the Fire Wall to mount the Bell Crank for the Throttle Rod.
But, remember the same Chassis was used on the Gassers. Maybe that is what the other Fire Wall mount is for. |
