It's all around scary, enough so that you should just pass on the rodbender so that I can have it (a 126, right?).

I drove this one first http://baltimore.craigslist.org/ctd/2337134795.html
and now that the trap is off and the exhaust temporarily patched the power isn't even close. It really runs like, lets say, a ford crown victoria only much smoother engine. At 3000 rpm in neutral you almost can't feel the engine. So a big crown vic with a 302 is no race car but that is what the power feels like, The 1983 I drove was a slug. I was scared to poll out in fast moving traffic

good to know that the motor mounts are in good shape, they can be shot and you wouldn't even know it ...and can lead to problems

How do you know if a rod bender was either
A)originally built with stronger rods as I assume some later model engines would have been
B)engine was replaced by dealer
c)has defective rods and managed to make it 220,000 without issue
????????????

Yeah, about that.

It's bad, so let me have the car.

Seriously, if it's an original engine it should have the paper VIN sticker on the block, top of the bell-housing flange. If a reman, a riveted-on tag. If neither, I guess you've got a local rebuild?

No way of knowing if it will fail when it hasn't yet. Mine had 237,000 and didn't use an abnormal amount of oil (original engine), had a replacment head which might have saved it, but there was a lot of scuffing in the bottom of the bores. It had no bent rods.

Head gasket if original can sometimes fail between the #1 cyl and the chain case. Thing will get 30 miles to the gallon (of oil) when it does that.

Couldn't resist....

Made it home safely. Car ran great. D.C. traffic was horrible. The GPS recalculated like ten times avoiding traffic, yeah like that is possible in D.C. I love the new Alpine stereo too.
