85 300CD IDLE issues

I only got this car a few days ago and it seemed fine then. But now Ive noticed when i start up the car after its been sitting over night that it starts up fine but then just wants to die unless I step on the gas slightly and rev it for a bit. But what worries me is when I give it gas while its in drive it has a delay where it actually drops revs for a second THEN picks up. And even when its idling and I step on the gas slightly it drops revs and you can notice the oil pressure going up and down slightly. Also when I rev it in neutral or park and take my foot off the gas the RPMs drop to about 500 and then pick up to about 650-700

WHAT IS THIS? thanks

85 300CD

your idle is set too low, and you need glow plugs. also your oil filter stem needs new o-rings. um... rack damper bolt adjustment? valve lash adjustment?

Gas?

This is a diesel-owners forum. HAH! More seriously, did you mention the year and model of the vehicle in question? I do think I might need to get glasses, so....

Jay.

Idle Variations(In addition to what Vstech suggests)

1.Fuel Filters [install new ones]
2.Startron in the Diesel Tank.

I'm guessing it's for the 85CD he is looking for donor panels in the parts section...

Autozone sells a Metric O-ring assortment made by Dorman for less than $8.
Dorman 172 piece O-ring Value Pack #799-450
In it are 24 of the 6mmIDx10mmODx2mmW O-rings that you need for the bottom of the Oil Filter Stem.
While the pats places sell 2 of the same sized O-rings for the bottom of the Oil Filter Stem some people use a 7mmX11mmx2mm on the upper one. There is also 24 of those in the Dorman Kit.

As previously stated start by changing the Fuel Filters.

Other things that can cause the issue:

An Air leak in the Fuel Inlet hoses and/or Hand Primer Pump.

(I will let this long thread speak for itself.)
Ruel Pressure Relief Valve/Overflow Valve Thread:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=234609

Sloppy Throttle Linkages can cause hesitation.

If your Fuel Supply/Lift Pump is not doing well it will not supply enough out put when needed. I believe that could also cause a hesitation.

In the manual there is a Vacuum test as well as pressure tests for the Fuel Supply/Lift Pump and the Fuel Pressure/Overflow Valve.
