That's an expensive thing to chance. And I'm sure the manual simply says not to tow it. But what do I know?

Don't even try to tow a car will another car. The Sable is not designed to tow larger vehicles behind it for more then 10 miles. 600 is out of the question.

If the car is driveable, go down and pick it up and drive it home. If it can't be driven tow it on a flat bed or at least with the rear off the ground.

You didn't mention which Mercedes you are buying. I would not use any front wheel drive car to tow another car, especially a HEAVY Mercedes. Fords (Mercury) are not exactly known for their transmissions, there is no sense in pushing it. Your Sable wagon probably wieghts about 3500 lbs, now add the 3800-4000 lbs the Mercedes will weight, your tranny and brakes are not meant to haul/stop this much mass. Where abouts is this Mercedes that you are buying?

there are so many auto transport companies now due to Ebay that you might be suprised how little a 600 mile dilivery would cost, pulling a heavy car with a car the same weight or lighter is not a very good idea.................
