Aftermarket Oil Pressure Warning Light?

In a post I read last year sometime someone brought up the fact that most, if not all, 123 model cars dont have oil pressure warning lights to warn a loss in oil pressure.

Is there a way to install such a warning light in an 85 300TD or similar?

Thanks,
Alec.

I always thought that if the Oil Pressure gauge drops suddenly at speed then there's a big problem. It's kinda hard to notice a little light and not notice a gauge that is right in front of you sitting on zero when it's suppose to be on 3.

This a good question. When I was reading the instructions for installing aftermarket Sunpro gauges, they said you need a tee, which can be bought at an auto parts store. You can buy a pressure switch to fit the tee. You can have a warning light and the original pressure gauge. You can checkout Sunpro's website: www.sunpro.com The installation instructions can be found in a PDF file.

What size tee do you need? I'd like to know the answer to that question.

Capt Kirk:

Strange as it may sound, I also think that an oil light is necessary on all older MBs, in addition to the gauge. I always glance down at my instruments periodically while on the road, but when the oil pressure fell to zero on my '70 280SL while on the highway, all I noticed was the engine seizing up! When that little needle flicks down to zero, it might not be as noticeable to others as it would be to you. I'm going to rig some sort of warning light in my older cars. Just to be safe.

Well on the w123, the gauge is right under my nose, I'm always checking the gauges driving down the freeway.

I do see your point and concern though.
