1980 om617 sending units
It looks like I have 2 temp sending units. One is on the water neck and the other is in the head near the injector pump. I'm guessing the one in the water neck is for the gauge and the one in the head is for the auxilliary fan?
My temp gauge is not working so I got a new sending unit which didn't help I changed the one near the front of the engine. Thanks

nope.
head has the temp gauge sender. water neck is usually for the CCU... not sure on your car. the aux fan is usually controlled by the temp sender on the receiver dryer.

Thanks I figured it out. I swapped them around ant the temp gauge came to life. It just started dancing around though so I'll check the connections.

I think you have 3. One for the CCU, one for the temp gauge and one for the glow plug system. (unless you have the newer style glow plug relay which reads the temperature at the relay)

It's a non EGR so I'm thinking it's an early one. There's one in the water neck, one near the front of the head and one in the center of the head.
What's CCU? My drier has a port plugged on top so one of mine must be aux fan. I also have a sending unit near the back of the intake manifold. Something to do with turbo boost?

CCU=climate control unit. In your case, the evil servo.
Should have a banjo bolt on the back of the intake manifold with a pressure line leading to the overboost protection solenoid.
