Making progress, but

I have everything loose and the exhaust manifold comes off of the head, but the thing that I circled in the picture (wastegate?) hits on the body before the manifold is clear of the studs.
Do I need to remove that thing? If yes, does it need a gasket?

also the Flex pipe is cracked, but I ground off the old flex section from the upper pipe and I am looking for a universal flex section that I can weld in. I found one at autozone, a braided section, but the ID was 2 1/4" and a tiny bit too small. they have a 2 3/8" ID flexible one, but it seemed light duty and didn't have solid (non flex) pipe ends.

You may need to remove fasteners from the motor mounts and raise the motor a little. I can't say I have ever had this particular issue. Something does not sound right. You should not have to remove that device.

Question

Dumb question:
Do I need to remove the intake manifold before or with the exhaust manifold?
I just noticed that it is Loose with 1 nut only left.

Thanks - It's out finally - I did have to jack up that side of the engine a little.
