rearview removal help

I need to take my rearview mirror off and have read john hef's post(just pull hard towards drivers side) and alas this has not been successful in the least. While sitting in drivers seat does it go left.....right or towards and away from self? The base is slightly loose and I am sure that is going to make it even more fun.I am trying to get to the A-pillar drain tube from sunroof.

As you sit in the drivers seat, pull down and twards your chest. Just when you think it will break, it either will or come down.

I push forward when they don't pull easy

Or just sit there and wish it was the neck of (fill in the blank). Tug back and forth with such vigor, a passerby will think you are crazy and look away. Then it will drop right into your hand. :D

They are designed to break away forward, I designed them.

Pulling to the side can damage the mounting plate, and is pulling against only one screw. Pulling directly toward the rear of the car is the second-best method, works also.

still wont come off!!I have pulled down and back, down and forward.Hammerwrench and hammer.bracket is loose, no more than it was, but still loose.Any other thoughts, out of PB, have deep creep.Gonna try again in the am, have to get it off , to get interior head piece off,to get to those drains.

Try this.
Hold it tightly by the neck with one hand, and SMACK your hand with the other hand. it should pop right out.

looks like I am going to need another set of hands to help. With the bracket loose I cant seem to get enough pressure down and towards windshield(or away for that matter) alone.Gonna get someone to tap mount as I pull down. In the meantime because bracket is loose I sadly anticipate either broken mirror or mangled mount.Anyone know of the matched set for sale used?I would like to get mirror and bracket it mounted to, hopefully this will insure a snug fit when replaced.
