85 SD evaluation... trying to get a price.

customer of mine has two cars, 84D and 85SD the SD is identical color combo to my 82, but has a branch ding on the driver's side fender.
he wants to get ... 1800 or so, I think it's nearer to 1200 in value.
needs maintenance, all belts are shot, alt belt/bearing squeaks. 250ish K miles... Metallic teal, with tan leather. needs valve adjustment. all options interior wise. heated seats etc...
what do ya all think?
I know, pics tell all, I'll post some if anyone here thinks it's valued more than I do.

I recently bought an 84 SD. 311k with a new engine. (no paperwork but by all appearances its true). MB tex. Interior in very good condition. No rust. Some clear coat problems on the paint. Small dent left front fender. Needed a glow plug and air cleaner mounts. $1500

Just prior to purchasing it, I looked at similar SD with 288k on original engine, very dirty, leather cracked, broken left rear trailing arm. Sold for $1200 to another guy as I was looking at it.

Sounds like the right price range. I thought the heated seats were a rare option in these.

Sounds like a very pretty car. It definitely sounds worth every bit of what he wants for it.

Are you sayin' that you are going to purchase it, if anyone here thinks it's worth more than you will give for it? I guess I got a doiuble meaning form your post. It sounds like you are interested in the car yourself, but if someone here will give more for it, then you will post pics.e of it to sell.

I am interested in the car, but judging by what's needed on it, and the general shape it's in, I do not believe it is worth 1800. oh, I know it's WORTH 1800, but not to me. I will be giving up my 82 I've had for 11 years, and passing it on to my old partner in business... in trade for his 82 with head gasket/crack issues, and a complete a/c overhaul payment.
I'll then put his 82 up for sale once it's all fixed up. I've always wanted an 85SD, and his is an early one with the two outer hood release latches, instead of the SDL/123/124 center pull tongue release... I just like that style better. I rebuilt his odometer when it started slipping, so I know the mileage is accurate. the color is complementary to what I've had, and his seats are in pretty decent shape.

another bonus to the car, is it's a color my significant other does not like, so she'll stay out of the car.

he's pretty decent with the car, he likes diesel's and has several, two vw's and two benz, plus a pair of busses, and a large truck.
I think he just wants more toward what he's paid for the car, and wants to start driving his 123 with FARRRR lower miles. (it's a great car, he just had me completely go through the car, and it's cherry now) I'm not looking forward to the massive list of things the SD is going to need to be roadworthy...
if any of you are really interested in the car I'll happily forward the information to you all. I'll take some good pictures, and post them here or in the for sale section.

Uh huh. Well then keep in mind to tell her those heated seat switches are for something, anything else.

Or you may find her color palette expands on cold mornings....

The problem with a 250k mile car is that is probably due to have just about everything replaced if it hasn't been aggressively maintained in the past. A few dollars difference in the purchase price may be insignificant compared to the total cost to make it correct.

Here's one that makes the 1800 seem like pennies !

http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/ctd/2357801090.html

Clean car but come back to reality!!.

Average price down here has been 1500 to 2500 some pristine examples as much as 6000.

At 1800 I bet you can get it at 1500 maybe even 1300 without anyone feeling bad. The 85 had the upgrade on the torque convertor improving takeoff didn't it ? May be worth the little extra right there.

I found an 83 at the metal scrap yard for 500.00 started it and drove it home. With 4 dollar diesel and the age and mileage more people are letting them go. The guy who scrapped it got 10.50 a hundred.
The owner said it was his third Mercedes in two weeks. Pretty Sad....

I'll be happy to find grey leather close & in decent shape without the heat. Only black has come around in the yard.

At that price you want Michelins at all 4 corners, no delaminating rear window lower edges, no b pillar trim sag, no pulverized seat pad horse hair. Other than that, nice.

Wonder what that red light is next to the light switch?
