How do I remove the fast idle cable?
1979 240D
Fast idle cable is junk. How is this thing removed from the dash? I don't want to hack at it too bad. Is there a trick? |

I'm not 100% sure but I think it unhooks / unscrews easily from under the dash. I don't remember it being a pain in the backside when I removed my dash...
If I remember to do so I'll take a look at it for you today. (If urgent PM me if I forget)

They are an easy replace. There is a screw collar on the front or the back of the handle, can't remember which. It's the front I think, you can pull the black plastic handle off and then the bezel unscrews.
They do have a funky mechanism inside, cam thingy. Sometimes they can be repaired by clamping them back together. Otherwise fairly inexpensive to replace.

thx - I pulled the black knob off and found it was easy to remove. The cable is like $50 plus shipping.
I picked up a cheap generic manual choke cable at the FLAPS for $6.99. I have it installed and through the firewall. I just ran out of time before getting it installed on the linkage. Tomorrow! |
