Trouble starting when hot?

Hi Guys,

I have had my 220D for a few years now and I love it. I replaced the heater blower motor and installed new glow plugs after the purchase of the car. The car has always been good to start as long as I have a good battery. I just pulled the tranny and installed a new tranny as the other one locked up and would no longer go into gear without sounding like a metal shop. After this work it seems that the car starts well when cold but after it is hot it is almost like the battery is low. After she cools off she fires. It is almost as if something expands when hot and acts as if it puts too much pressure on the starter motor. It is strange and I have never had this problem with the car. Any Ideas?

The blower was a big job here is how I did the work, I hope this will help someone. http://www.sunbeaminvasion.com/PDF/blower-install.pdf I hope

Regards,
Andy

when you pulled the transmission, you may not have put the ground strap back on. or the bolts could be loose, or oil may be insulating the starter from getting ground...

I agree with vstech. Check all your battery, starter, and alternator wires to make sure they are all connecting well. I had a similar issue in my 240D a while back. Ended up being a loose wire on the starter.

Thanks guys,

I will pull the bolts back out and clean things. It did it to me again this morning. She started like a top with little to no effort, took it to get some diesel and then she would not start. I sat for 15 min and she started like the battery was low. Mind you she will start without the glow plugs, go figure. Anyway, I will try and clean things up tonight.

Regards,
Andy

P.S.
This forum is great, I have tried to get help on other forums and it is just not there. I can ask a question here and I am sure to get help in a few hours, thanks a bunch guys. It is more fun owning the car when you have people who will help.
