W140 door trim removal

I've got a '92 300SD and I'd like to take off the interior trim to fix the flip top on inner trim. I've driven these things for a long time and had the interior trim off of my 124s and 240Ds, but this seems different. I think you need to get behind the door opening lever and the plastic cover behind it used to be flexible and pulled right out so you could get at the screw behind it, but this one is very stiff and I have tried to pull it out with no success. Is there something else I need to know? I've pulled pretty hard, but I don't want to break something.
