Non Turbo 300TD

Hi all, I was looking at a wagon today, a W124 300 TD. The guy says it is an 87 but I am not so sure. It is a Euro model, glass headlights and a little different inside. It has a retractable cover for the back that hooks to the gate. Cool, I have never seen that before. It also has a lock on the drivers side tunnel that looks like a bike lock, push it in and use the key to pop out. I have no idea what that is. The real difference is it has a non turbo 6 cylinder diesel. Completely different looking than my 300 TDT. Air box is on the left, the intake is different. Different CCU (dials instead of buttons) Could this be the proper engine or is it from something else? It is a 603 engine as it is stamped on the top. Any light on this mystery would be great

Yes, the Euro version was available in a 603na, much more common there than the turbo I'm told.

The air box is on the left for a N/A.
The lock could be a gear lock. Saab's had them.
Sounds just like a Euro N/A , a bit gutless compaired to a turbo but still a great wagon.

When locked, the car cannot be changed out of park or what ever gear its in. The car you are looking at has probably had it disconnected but the lock is still there.

I don't know, possibly. He bought it about a year ago but this one is black. could have been painted I guess I didn't look that close at the paint. I believe he will scrap her as she needs allot of work. I went to estimate cost to put it on the road. It is not that great in overall to spend a bunch of money on. I am going to try to get for parts for mine, I guess the headlights are probably worth a few bucks and it must have other stuff that would be worth saving.

This is very true in my opinion: The turbo 603s are far lesser in numbers here than the 603NAs (which came with both auto and manual trannies). The non-turbo 603 is a nice motor (too)!
