I agree the tacky fender trim, it's terrible!

My car is a California version, and it was purchased new in San Antonio, Texas, in November, 1985, so I don't think this is 100% correct. My understanding is the trap ox, etc., was not an option per se, but that California required cars imported for sale into that state to be compliant with state-specific emmission requirements, thus the need for a "California version." However, I don't think it was that uncommon for California-compliant cars to make their way to dealers in different states for sale (especially a state as close as Oregon), especially since '85 was the last year for these, and dealers were probably clearing out their inventories.

At any rate, $23,000+ is a lot of money...but that sure is a beautiful car.

I disagree. I believe it accents the rest of the cars shiny trim very well.

You are correct, "option" was not the correct word to use here. Calif is very strict in the emmision requirements as per CARB. (calif air resources board).

I`ve lived he long enough to know how screwed up it is

My 85 "was" one of those Kali Kars.

there were three HP ratings on the OM616...

1) Not much power
2) Even less power
3) Not nearly enough power!! 240D w/auto

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.
