Skid pans

there anyway to protect the Rad any better in the 124's. Just busted one in a customers driveway, I forgot about a bump(It's a friggin Mini lake....Crater) and busted it...so, is there any skid plate or anything to make that area less prone to damage... car diddnt overheat, pulled in the driveway and it's sitting there now... *sigh*

I am getting a part number 1245200642 for the skid plate.

dont feel bad, did the same thing on a 123 with just the right shape rock. The lower section of the radiators is pretty exposed to something at the right height, apparently on the 124's too.

You have achieved some thing unusual. I would have thought the alloy sump on a 124 would be history long before the radiator tank. That bash plate DV has posted looks like it would be a good idea. I have been thinking about making one out of some 1/4" thick T6 aluminum plate. It would let the car just scrape over curb etc.

Did you somehow hit the radiator on something? The large solid-steel bar across the front should be the first to hit, trouble is that if you hit it hard enough you drive the bar back and up, and the radiator lower mounts move with it.

I was wondering about this as well. I had a minor scrape and it was only evident on the bar, nothing else (but, I wasn't the first one...that's certainly true!)

This is how lots of the original belly pans die, they wrap around that bar (the lowest point).

thats what happened. there's a bend in that bar (not huge but it's noticeable enough and bent enough)... the tank/bottle itself is fine. just empty, hell I had that replaced just 2 weeks ago as it was cracked.
