(finally) went an saw that '85 300td for sale...

Hi guys!

Wanted to follow up on that '85 300 turbo diesel I went to see....The seller had pumped this car up! He told me that it had power windows, sunroof, a/c, vacuum locks...the works! What he MEANT to say was that the car was EQUIPPED with those toys in 1985, but unfortunately NONE of them worked!! The interior had "cat scratch fever" and smelled like VOMIT!!!!! AND don't ya think that someone who was selling a car would at least wipe off the dash?? Eewwwww it had some LAYER of thick ear-wax-like substance over the instrument cluster! I was nervous!
Not to mention....the way the car RAN!!!!!!!!! I mean, I was willing to work on making it pretty, but WOOF! This car idled like a rabid dog on a leash! It was WAY out-of-control!!!!!!!!!! The tach didn't work either, but I'd guess that it was idling at either 4000rpms or .0004 rpms...I couldn't tell! It ran sooooo rough!
It needed some fuel..it was BELOW "R", so the guy said to pull into the gas station....and he put TWO DOLLARS in it! (He was all heart...lol)
He continued to tell me how the car's book value was 4900$ He really thought I was a MORON! He kept LYING about everything! I kept thinking that he'd have to pay ME that much to take it off of his hands!
I will say that the car did really well on the interstate...really smooth....but I do alot of city driving and with that idle, people might think I was wanting to RACE them or something! lol!! :p

So...what am I trying to say here?? Well, I didn't buy that car...

The idle may be easy or very hard to fix, you will have to be more specific as to exactly what it was doing.

I would definatley skip this turd unless you can get it real cheap.. there are alot to choose from.

My neighbor owns a '80 300SD. I went with him to look and drive it. When we first started her up the idle was BAD. It shook like hell, but once you reved it up a bit, it was very smooth. It accelrated beautifully, but idled real bad. Well to make a long story short, he bought the car and it turned out to be bad motor mounts and engine shock mounts. We replaced these, and it was a different animal all together.

Definately don't need another fixer-upper....Woof!

So...I didn't even make an offer...

As for the idle..didn't my "rabid dog on a leash" description make it perfectly clear?? Lol!!! Maybe I should have said "starving, rabid dog on a leash with a t-bone 5 feet out of it's reach" LOL LOL!!!

Thanks for the input....

~Christy
