Cross thread on 300SD .. Help
Does anyone have any DIY fixes for this ?
pictured are my wheel on 300SD & the bolt that is used in these... a bad goodyear tire shop installed my 4 tires (long time ago) ...my bad that I didn't rotate this tire - and neglected that...but now I need to change this tire because of wear. It hasn't been removed since it was intstalled, and when I tried to loosen the lugs 3 of the 5 don't budge. I then tried with PB Blaster and the stock MB lug wrench & a long steel pipe / breaker bar, and still doesn't budge. So I go back to this goodyear shop and the guy says the bolts are crooked and were put in cross threaded . The manager wants $60 to try it, even with my receipt because he says "How do we know you didn't remove the lugs and put them in crooked?" So seeing this type 1 bolt I did remove, does anyone know any DIY fixes or ideas I can try? Any / all suggestions are appreciated.

You should ask the manager how in hades you would have put in all of those bolts crooked using hand tools. Anyone with a slight bit of sense of something wrong would have stopped at the first one to see what's awry.
He's trying to dupe you for his unskilled labor force because he thinks he can get away with it. If it's a "fleet" store, go over his head if needed. I'm not sure how accessible the back side is, but it looks like it's going to take some heat to cause the bolts to "lengthen" and enable you to back them out.

This man (the Manager ) is a crook
find his superior and offer Her/Him a trip to small claims court in Palm Beach County.
AND an interview on camera with NBC Miami. Be sure to ask who their Liability Insurer is! These crooks REFUSE to use Torque Wrenches. 'Be all the cost of Damages on their heads! If it ends up needing New Hubs (And Bearings),I'd take it to An MB Dealer and then Sue Goodyear. I'd not allow those crooks the opportunity to damage SOMETHING ELSE!!!

Goodyear 'service'
On time I was at a festival and was photographed by the press. In exchange for using the photo, he gave me a coupon for a free oil change at a local Goodyear service station. I had a Nissan truck at the time and I took it in for the oil change. They did not completely tighten the oil filter down and over the next several weeks, oil seeped out from the filter. Unfortunately on that vehicle, the oil filter sits right above the starter, so over time, the oil gummed up the starter. So my 'free' oil change ended up costing about $145 I would never go to a Goodyear station, and your experience reminds me why. Sorry about the lugs...I expect air tools will be required to remove them.

Either you're going to put enough brute force to remove the bolts and then do whatever is necessary to repair OR, go up the ladder at Goodyear until you get someone to repair. Frequently the first supervisory line above the store level is also an idiot.
I talked recently to a Firestone tech who said they did a bunch of free work on a car to get to the point where they could prove that their work wasn't faulty. A little phone work is in order. Be nice but take names and notes & document as you go up the chain of command. Look in the FSM and determine what needs to be replaced in order to be safe. You don't want the wheel coming off because it was held on by worn, stripped bolts or bolt holes.

Spoke with General Manager He says he will try to use a gun to spin off cross threaded bolts ..( no charge) If they do not come out he will have to charge me hourly rate $95/HR ; wth a discount... .............

Never let morons work on your car. If you do, always check before you leave the store to make sure the lugs can be loosened with your hand wrench. Now the solution: find a friend with a good breaker bar, a six point impact socket and a six foot length of 3/4 iron pipe (or whatever you need to fit over the breaker handle. If you can't get them out you'll break them off. Worst case drill and tap. Maybe they will come out and you can chase the threads and put new bolts in or helicoils. Best thing to do, sue the bastards and make them fix it. These "pro" tire shops hire people with the IQ of just over a pet rock and need to pay for their mistakes.

After you get them out...
You almost certainly need to replace that hub.... Do not take any chances on your safety trying to be (too) frugal....

Cheap drive in repair shops are all bad...
I think these drive in repair shops are all bad. I took our Mazda MPV van in for an oil change at the "Great Canadian Oil Change" recently. Next change - when I got to look at it myself - I discovered that the oil filter was on quite loose and seeping slightly and the drain plug was reamed in so tight that they'd rounded the flats on the head.
Every time I am in a hurry and go to one of these places I later vow yet again to never go back. |

The Wheel Hubs are SCREWED
The Cross-Threaded lug bolts have ruined your Hubs.
(It Doesn't matter WHAT that fool @ the Goodyear store does to get the old Lug Bolts out!!!) I'm Telling You! Do Not,Under ANY circumstances, allow those Idiots Near Your Mercedes AGAIN !!! The only way to SAFELY continue operating your Mercedes is to have the Wheel Hubs Replaced. If I knew a competent Machinest in your area ,I'd allow him to "Timesert" the "Boogered" Wheel Hub openings. But,Chances Are,it might be cheaper to have the Dealer replace the Hubs. Once Again, DO Not,Do Not,Do Not Allow those Idiots @ Goodyear near your M.B.!!! The fact that the Idiot Manager thinks he can "Fix" the Problem by "Forcing" the cross-thread proves he's no concept of what he's dealing with.
