Buying a timing chain

I was seaching the web to buy timing chain for an OM602 engine and saw listings for the usual Iwis chain and one from Beck Arnley . The Beck Arnley chain 024-1380 timing chain was priced much lower than the Iwis timing chain . I wonder if the there is a catalog mistake or it is one that fits and and is of decent quality. I have used Beck Arnley parts on various cars for years and found them to be ok but never a timing chain . Anyone familiar with this ?

I'd be very reluctant to go with anything other than the recognized OEM part when it comes to a timing chain....too much is at stake.

Just curious....why the replacement? What's the mileage on your engine? I've got a pair of 602's, both with original chains.

I don't remember where I saw the pictures, but there was a comparison of the Beck Arnley chain with the IWIS( may have been for the gasser- I just did my 380SL chain), and the BA was clearly inferior and less stout. I am a cheapskate, but even I opted for the Iwis.

It is certainly not a re-branded Iwis (as I was hoping)

I have a Beckly-arnold chian in my engine. I'd go with the IWIS. I plan to change it in the future. The pins for the chain links are larger in the IWIS chains. The IWIS chains, the link is made to be peened over. The BA has a clip to hold the link in place. I peened mine over, but not real sure of the results.

Whats wrong with the buyparts link at the top of the page?
You can call Roy (whunter) if you have any questions about a chain you purchase from fastlane.

In the 3 years I so I have been haunting the various Mercedes forums I have not read of anyone using anything made by Beck Arnley until that guy posted in this thread.

If you are not selling your car to some hapless person and plan to drive it for a long time use the IWIS Chain.

However, I would shop around for a good price and free shipping.

while doing the shopping around for a good price and free shipping be sure and CALL phil. he's got amazing resources, and a chain would always be a free shipping purchase!!!

Thanks for the replies - I will buy the IWIS brand timing chain .

(sometimes the BA other aftermarket branded parts are re-labled /branded OEM but that is not the case in this instance)

You still need to shop around so you have a good idea what the parts you want cost.
Othewise you will not know if Phil can beat the price or not.

yup! that's why I said WHILE shopping to be sure and call phil!

My indie mechanic would not put anything but a MBenz chain into my car, when I was supplying the part. He looked for the hologram and sealed box, and then said "OK" he'd accept the part.
