It is the same thing as if a trooper or policeman killed someone's child while driving their patrol car while they were drunk. The purpose of the no-drinking-and-driving law was to protect people from the dangerous consequences of drunk people rocketing around behind the wheels of cars. Those consequences are equally dangerous no matter WHO does the driving. If the police see us doing it (I don't drink, myself, but it's an example) they throw the book at us. Just supposing, for the moment, that it was the policeman who was guilty of the offense and me, Joe Public, who saw it happen. UNLESS there is a criminal lawsuit because somebody actually does get killed, the odds of that officer being punished equally to the way I would get punished for the offense, which was EQUALLY dangerous for both of us to be doing, are slim to none. This is abuse of power, plain and simple. Far from being an "unfair" system, it's not even a "RIGHT" system.
Speeding, drinking, it's the same thing. What's dangerous to the public for a citizen is also dangerous to the public from a LEO. (Law Enforcement Officer). But, we the citizens are more accountable for our actions than the LEOs are?!??!?
