1983 300SD Pinion Shaft Nut adjustment
Replacing differential with unit from 300TD. The front seal appears to have a leak and I would like to replace the seal. Can the preload be adjusted with the differential intact? Also, what would the torque be?

The Pinion Bearing Preload is adjusted some what like the Rear Wheel Bearings by means of a Spacer that you crush when you tighten it. There is no specific Torque. You tighten it untily you achieve a specific rotating resistance when you rotat the Pinion Shaft/Gear.
Some Members have found away around the above; it might be in the 123 section. DIY Repair Links http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diy-links-parts-category/ http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/DoItYourSelf
