Glass Fuses?

We used to have these glass fuses available at local parts houses, pointy silver caps on both ends, great for substituting for the fugly plastic Bussman "german" fuse jobbies.

Now all I get are blank stares and incredulous "really?"s from the talking polo shirts.

WHERE are these now?

There was a thread on this, complete with pictures, several years ago, but, nobody could find any at that time.

So.... what you're saying is, "You're on your own, Son."

Thanks for that info. I'm going to start tracking down some of my performance contacts in the early Volkswagens, Volvos, and other "Boschy" lines...

Surely there is someone, even a boutique, making high-quality fusibles for the old "Fusenklippen-Gebrochenfusen-Gefingerstauben-Achdulieber"-type autos. The ones the polo-shirts sell make me want to puke.

*light bulb*
...if I shock myself and find (gasp) NOBODY servicing the high-quality bulletproof retro clip fuse market, well, perhaps I will get busy in my shop, and sell 'em. ("Hey..it's America, Babe." -Smitty, The Gumball Rally)

At the least, I hope to come back with some source. Wish me luck.

there are two search links on each page. one is search this forum, one is just search located on the bar with the logout and usercp links...
click on the search link, and a drop down appears... choose GOOGLE SEARCH and use the powerful engine to scour this website for any and all phrases... I used... Glass Fuses...
neat eh?

94 hits, Oy.

I see there's much opinion about which is the best tack (surprise,) plus some great tips. Rather than stir that pot further, I'll just read for a while now.

Thanks, John!

I salvaged some of the pointy Glass Fuses from Volvos at that Junk Yard.

But, in the end the Stock Type Fuses are entirely adequate if you do not have the Plastic Bodied ones. The Stock Fuses do look very vintage and primitive.

I'm just having a hard time conceiving of one of these cars that looks so good that ugly fuses are a serious detractor from its appearance. Or even noticeable. I live in a world of cracked dashes, incurably stained carpets, peeling wood trim, seats that look like weapons of mass destruction have been tested on them, paint that's sun-baked and peeling off in big round splotches, a parking brake that has to be held up by a bungee cord if you want the red light to ever go out, and rust bubbles at the fenders. Ugly fuses are about as high on my list of "noticeable flaws" as not having all the fibers in the floor mats combed the same direction.

By the way, this isn't intended to actually insult you. If you want prettier or more durable fuses, by all means go for it. This post is intended to be humorous moreso than offensive; sometimes I come across more critical than I'd like.

[lisp]That's true, but the fuses do add a nice splash of color to an otherwise drab fusebox![/lisp]
