Exhaust mount broken

1983 W126 300SD

(I had just assumed it was loud because it was a Diesel, duh...)
Found an exhaust leak in the header pipe, on it's way down from the turbo.
About halfway down, the exhaust header is wrapped in a (Bellows? Heat shield?) and there's a hole in that part.

I was going to ask if I could just JB Weld that hole or something.... but curiouser and curiouser, I find that the whole exhaust pipe swings back and forth, (apparently it pivots within the joint at the turbo?) and the lower mount that holds the header in place has apparently sheared off the hex head bolts holding it to the frame. A little too much oil-mud-cake down there for me to tell at the moment what the mount's status is.

Am I at risk, having this exhaust mount swinging free like this? It's probably where the hole came from, if the header can bang back and forth like that. I'm just worried about the mount on the turbo.

I need to get down the the spray wash and knock all the yucky-cake off the bottom so I can see what's going on.

No telling how long that's been busted, or how, but I know that at one juncture before I owned it the car was in a collision, because crumbs of window glass keep surfacing whenever i go into the dash. Also, (grrrr,) the spare tire well has been "pushed up" to make a convex space where no spare will fit. (How do you DO that, anyway? Try picking the car up with a fork-lift?)

JB Weld will burn at exhaust temps.
One of our Members used something I believe was called Thermosteel to patch something on the exhaust. The First patch fell off but the 2nd one held.
If you use something like that be sure to follow the cleaning instuctions so the stuff can adhere well.

The Exhaust is not supposed to swing or it will eventually beak off.

On my 300D down at the lower bend that would be close to you if you were under the care there is a Bracket attched to the Bell Housing.
A U-Bolt goes around the Exhaust Pipe and and through 2 holes on the Bracket with Nuts on the End. That is upposed to keek everthing from that point up to the other Clamps up near thel Turbo Steady.

I see what I must do

I see the stuff at AutoZone, it's called VersaChem. It's what you said.

Is that corrugated hump in the header pipe the catalytic converter? Explains why header replacement kit is so expensive. I'll patch that if I can.

Looks like the bracket at the bottom header bend has parted in two where it bolts to (apparently) bottom of the bell housing. I'll need that piece. I will search in DIY topics.
