Crackling noise from steering wheel? w123
This just started yesterday, at idle to around 15mph there is a sound coming from the left side if the dash that kind of sounds like a crackling radio/paper. It doesn't seem dependant on the position of the steering wheel, and it goes away with increasing speed. Any ideas?

Sounds like your shut off valve is leaking oil, Means it will be going out soon.

I'm not sure what it is (electrical?), I'm fairly certain it's not a failing shut off valve. AFAIK, they don't make any noise and it's located under the IP.

If the sound is dependent on speed it might be the speedo cable. Does the speedo jump around at those speeds?

Yes the speedo started to jump around at nearly the same time that this noise started. It's intermittent, hasn't done it for a day or so.
