Air filter oddity

My car had a fram air filter that looked fine. Due to seeing oil despite no appreciable blowby and sealed separator, I changed the filter (which looked clean) per some forum recommendations.

I put a Mann in.

Now my turbo has a more noticeable whistle, which is consistent with my old 300d cars... But the odd thing is that it is making less boost. I have a gauge and a boost controller. I had tuned the controller to not give me more than 11.7psi. This was done with the old filter.

With the new filter in, I can't seem to get more than 10.75 psi under any conditions. I cant imagine that a new Mann is more restrictive than an old fram. What gives? Nothing has changed on the boost controller.

Put the old Fram back in and see what it does.

I think the air filter lid is not sealed well. Is the Mann filter slightly taller than the Fram? Is the air filter assembly secured at the air intake? In my experience a whistle is usually air being drawn in somewhere around the air filter assembly.

When I say whistle I mean the typical 617 turbo sound... Same one I'm used to hearing for a few hundred k.

Not a bad/abnormal noise. It actually sounds more "right" now (like I'm used to) then when I had the fram in.

You could briefly run the Car without the Air Filter. That might give you some extra information.
If the Boost remains the same without the Air Filter you would know if it is another issue.

Was replacing the air filter the only thing you did under the hood that day?

Were you poking or prodding around in any way that might have loosened the inlet hose on the turbo?

Nope, just changed the filter.

I should note that the "noise" is a good thing - it sounds just like my other 617 diesels which I had a lot of miles on and experiences with...

Its really just the pressure which does interest me. Car's drivability doesnt seem any different... And Ive checked for leaks in the gauge piping.
