located another 83 300D....

Was over at my local shop that does my headliners etc, and had driven over the my 300CD, in talking they said they had an old one in the back in the tree's that "had a blown engine" I had to go take a look. Someone already took the Radiator from it. I made an offer for the remains, and am waiting to see if they will go for it. The guy wants to put a 350 in it and paint it pink....

I asked more about the "blown engine" and really, they have never checked it at all... the car was not running when they got it and they don't know why. If nothing else, I'm going to grab the engine and trans out of it since they don't want it anyways....

btw...

It has a full set of the hubcaps on her... are they worth anything?

What would be a fair price for it, missing the radiator, the air cleaner. Not running, as is... Interior is in great shape, little sun fade but thats about it.

I know I can get 400 for the body scraped alone....

Some one probably just put hubbie wheels on a later 123. Not that odd.
The hubbies themselves aren't worth much. A perfect set of 4 might fetch $100. But if they are dinged or scratched a set of 4 might be worth $40.

I wouldn't give up on the engine it could just have bad glow plugs or something simple that someone didn't bother to look at.

I think that roof will buff out
If you have the space, a willing wife, and a 200-300 bucks I'd go for it.
It's a non running parts car with bad paint. You have no idea what shape any mechanical parts are, but it's always good to have a few extra parts.
All the light lenses look like they aren't all cracked, it's got a passenger side view mirror. People like those.
The interior looks like it's in decent shape. Uncracked dash is big bucks. You'd be able to nickel and dime parts off it, and save the extras you want, and still come out on top.

LOL. guy won't budge from 800 bucks.... So well, good luck with that. I was driving my 81, pointed to it and said, you realize I only payed 800 for that and drove it home? for 800 to 1000 I can buy them all day long around here. Some people are really crazy on what they THINK value is... I would have given him 400 for it tops. I can scrap the body for that. plus could have taken off it want I wanted before. But thats quite a bit of work and time. I'll wait till the next one.

Hmmm headliners you say - do they also do those nice bits of fabric covered trim that go around the doors? You know the nice soft fabric bits that get brushed past and go all mucky...

I bought my 240D running with a broken flex disc, good(but oxidized) paint, straight body, strong engine, clean interior for $500. But if it's shop selling they've gotta make their money. I guess some other fool will buy it. Or maybe they'll change their minds after they sit on it for a while longer and sell it for what it's really worth.

From what I can see, the front seats look like they're from an '80 to '82. But the center console is correct for an '83.

According to the VIN plate picture, it's an '82.

That's the second 904 midnight blue 300D turbo that I've seen without a sunroof. The other one I've seen was specifically ordered without one.

According to the datacard, this car came with Bundts

Yeah, but it's A MERCEDES! And someone's asking about it! So it has to be worth (fill in stupid number of your choosing)....

Leave him your phone number. I can't tell you how many local cars sit for sale at stupid prices at garages or other businesses, then one day the owner has a migraine from staring at it and BOOM away it goes.

Unfortunately, I am never the guy who walks in or calls at the right time for such deals....
