Ip timing clarification
Hi,
Read the FSM as well as the 615/616 DIY in the wiki. The FSM states to rotate the engine until it appears as droplets... That sure seems inexact in terms of making sure that things are lined up exactly. The wiki shows to line up on the harmonic balancer. I assume it is the 0T place on the balancer, right? That would make a lot more sense than something as arbitrary as droplets forming. So how do I best determine how everything is correctly aligned, and also that the stretch in the TC is correctly aligned. Also what is the best source for the drip tube??? Want to perform timing on my 240 and 300. |

I did not think the engine was involved in rotating to give the one drop per second..
I thought the engine was set at a certain place...and the IP was rotated to give one drop per second.... |
The instructions are different for "Checking the Injection Pump for begin of delivery (the low pressure method)." Is different then they are for timing the Fuel Injection Pump with the low pressure method.
Checking: Rotate Engine in direction of rotation until fuel changes into drops at the Over Flow Pipe. Formation of drops: One drop per second. In this position read the begin of delivery on the graduated scale (the degree marks) of the balancing discs (the crankshaft damper) and adjust for begin of delivery. If required(section 07.1-115 in the manual). To adjust the Fuel Injection Pump timing you rotate the Engine to the desired degrees before Top Dead Center (the is the OT on the degree marks) on the compression stroke and Rotate the Fuel Injection Pump to get the desired drips per second. During checking or adjusting someone needs to be keeping the Fuel Pressure as constant as they can by pumping on the Hand Primer. If you do not do that the amount of drips you get is going to be erratic. |
