I scored a Euro front bumper, triangle clip and a plexiglass sunroof shade/wind thingy. I had to cut it to get it to fit around the roof rails but it sure keeps the wind off the rear passengers. $40.

Forget about finding the wheels at PNP. when the cars come in and are being processed, they pull the wheels and throw them in the recycle bins. seems to be something new this past year. all aluminum wheels especially get pulled for the recycling price of aluminum.

Schnitzer steel ownes PNP, it is all about profit, and the scrap goes to China and or india.

I did find a perfect blue dash from a 78 300CD last summer. and three years ago there was a W116 with a perfect set of 15" Bundt wheels. Diametricalbenz got those for one of his projects. never seen another set since.

I *wish* we had Benz's just laying around in PNP's in this city of 1,000,000 people. Nope. Not a common car to find at a wrecker. Lucky to find anything with tri-star logo. Yet we have 2 dealers and see lots driving on the road.

Maybe dealers have a line on buying up all old stock and crushing, to keep cheap parts supply down. Wouldn't surprise me in the least, seriously.

I can just see the deal, "any chassis you get, take the VIN plate and a picture of it crushed, and $500 to you".

Cash for Very Select Clunkers, on a very local scale.

I see perfect examples here in our yards all the time. I can see why some are here, accident damage, rust, neglect etc...

Right now there is a 77 300D 399,992 on the spedo. tan with brown interior. this car is almost perfect. no rust, zero, no accident damage any where I can see. probably a donated car.

I have both left doors, rear window and the front rotors/hubs. After the 50% weekend sale, it is pretty well trashed by now.

Yeah, there was a junkyard regular there. He pulled the engine for me and preserved the linkage, turbo, most of the vacuum system, etc... Did a fine job no money down. I paid him his fee and got the motor for a song.

He's on speed dial.

There are usually guys that hang around the various PNP`s that will pull parts for a price. I paid a guy last week $15 to cut out the accident damage on an SD so I could pull the engine. the guy was quick and fast.

I did find some pages out of a Girly Mag one time in a car.

The last time I was at Parts Galore in Detroit there was a guy going around pulling the head / tail lights and control modules from all the foreign cars. He had two wheelbarrow's full when he checked out. Kind of lame IMHO.

$25 for an unbroken black glove box for my Jetta. Also, a bunch of the icecube Mercedes relays a guy gave me for free once. I guess that counts.

They used to have them here until a new manager came in and kicked every single one of them out except the crazy homeless lady who lives in the vans out there....

Best thing I ever got was a set of lineman's pliers, which the guy in line ahead of me at the cash register had found in a truck. He didn't want them and the cashier shrugged so I took them home for free. A few minutes on the wire wheel and the rust and grime came off to reveal the brand name "Klein Tools" and "USA." Made of genuine steel and complete with side cutters and special finger-crushing section.
