Water on front driver floor board
We've been having some freak rain storms lately, and today I went out to drive my 240D and there was water on the floor board, and the carpet was wet. It also appeared that there was pooled water where the windshield meets the dash. Is it common for the windshield seal to rot out and allow water into the car? Also, is it possible to have the seal replaced without replacing the windshield??

This seems to be a common issue that comes us everyonce in a while.
If that is the original probably the rubber is hard, cracked and maybe shrunk up a bit. The gasket can be cut out and the glass pushed out, gently, do not want to twist it or tweek it or it will crack. I removed mine a few years ago doing this. sounds like this is your problem if you have water puddling along the dash. Have you kept the hinge pockets clean and the drains under them? that is a good place for rust to start. also on the Pass side under the battery. the acid can and will eat through the sheet metal. A glass shop can do the R&R of the glass. When I removed mine, I was checking it for rust, and doing some painting. luckly I had no rust. usually the glass shop will just pull the window, and slap in the new glass. This has been an unusually wet long winter hasn`t it? we got 3 inches since last night here in Soquel. Charlie |
