used om603 out of car known runner what should I do

So I have a used 1987 om603 engine out of the car, number 15 or 16 head (can't remeber off hand but not 14). I drove the car around before the engine was pulled it ran great, idled good etc.

So while I have it out, I want to go through and look for things that may turn into issues with time.

Was planning to do the head gasket, timing chain and take a look at the main bearings.

Is there anything else I should do?

Also is the ATE head gasket kit any good they have one at my local napa for 150 dollars?

Thanks

usage is unknown odometer stoped at just 80K miles

Front crank seal, timing chain tensioner rail, other chain guides, oil pump chain, update vacuum pump, IP-to-block o-ring, reseal IP, check water pump housing for corrosion if it's had green coolant, prep head for after glow relay temp sensor while IP is out...

Put it in a chassis with new belt and call it a day?

The 603A (sic to your post) is not as much of a turd as is typically portrayed. I wish I had that sweet of a "junker" in my Suburban.

Check the timing set, update the vacuum pump, call it good and stab it in a good chassis and go.

Update the front hub crank bolt from the early three conical washer design to the new one solid washer design supplied by MBUSA (with a new bolt obviously). I can get you part numbers if I can find the invoice. Everything was less than $30. VERY cheap to avoid this disaster. Only takes seconds once the washers start to spin, and the bolt backs out to trash the hub and crank. With every OM603 install I do now, it's part of the checklist. Dont ask me why...

Beware, it can happen to you, lol...
