The only way to tell how much oil you have is to take the system apart , flush, and measure it back in... and of course the suggestion is to put it spread around in several places..
The R4 compressor does not have an oil sump.. thus the mixing of the oil in the refrigerant becomes very important ... way more than other type compressor which do have a reserve of oil to keep them going in the event of refrigerant loss...
Hopefully your compressor is OK.

Prevailing wisdom seems to point to adding a specific quantity of oil to each component to ensure adequate distribution. Say, 2oz in the drier, 2 oz in the condenser, etc.

Sounds as if you just blew a big wad-O-oil in the suction line and you may have lost lubrication while said big wad snaked its way back to the compressor.

Hopefully the oil will get spread out enough to lube it properly.

I don't know much about AC but learning from mistakes can be a PITA with them...

What type of OIL did you use??
You need to use approx 5-6 OZ of PAG 150 weight oil TOTAL!

So sounds like you need to again remove the compressor & dump all of the oil & again flush the complete system.

When you get done & pull vacuum on system for at least 45 minutes...add the oil & run the system for 5-10 minutes w/o charging. That will allow the compressor to break-in
w/o too much pressure.

Good readings in Texas on a HOT day will be 225-250 high side & 25-35 low side.
