Question How to disconnect Rod Sensor from Inject pump

I hope someone can explain how to disconnect the electrical connection to the "Control Rod Travel Sensor, L7.
It is located on top of the injection pump, behind and left of the vacuum cut off unit. There is a brown plastic thumb device attached.

I believe it turns counterclockwise (toward the IP). It will be quite stiff. You will also need to remove it after you take the plug out, too -- or maybe not, depending upon what you are doing. I took it off for something, but cannot remember if ie was the pressure valve seals or the cutoff replacement -- probably cutoff replacement.

Thanks for the reply, I am pulling the IP for some shop work and actually have it removed and ready to come out if I could make this disconnect.

I have tried to push the thumb button both ways and it has not moved. I fear breaking something with any more force, hence, the question. My manual says rotate it to the left to release the connection, but...

It is VERY tight, but if you break it, it is replaceable. The locking ring with lever comes off the pump when you pull the plug out and rotate it some more.

I had to use a pair of channellocks to get it to move. It did not break.

Are you having the pump worked on or the engine, I forget?

I'm having the pump worked on, it had one of those curiosity mishaps that I seem to have more and more of these days.

I had a delivery valve holder off for a new o-ring and decided to see what that stuff in the hole looked like. All was well until I started back in with the barrel/plunger and it has an pin-slot line up requirement. I used a mirror and thought I spotted a pin at 9 oclock, NOT.

I now get zip, nada, none fuel from #5. I have went back in and reinstalled the barrel/plunger to the correct 6 oclock position but it won't stay there. It rotates and the alignment holes are facing a blank wall.

A cat has nothing on me, if I broke the housing, my wife will kill me.

I am on my way to give the channel locks a try, I'll let you know.

You were right as usual, wow, was it tight, I just knew it would break first but, wala, it's out. I would never put that much pressure had you not advised me.

Many thanks Peter

Harry:

Been there, done that -- but not on this IP.

I would never suggest taking anything but the pressure valve holders and seals/seats out -- too much chance of getting something out that cannot be put back together without a bench, expertise, and special tools.

Sounds like you don't have the sleeve attached to the rack anymore -- should be easy to fix if you didn't break anything.

Best of luck, glad I could help!

Peter
