With the trunk triangle and the code, maybe a federalized Euro, or a US-spec for Euro delivery via the tourist program?

The dealer ignition tumbler to match the ignition/trunk/doors/glovebox will bump you further away from the C-240-C at about $100. Since it's a low-dollar daily driver, I'd skip that fix.

The tape electrical vacuum fix is probably a contributor to your locks not working.

No rust, just some small spots here and there. Engine runs well(I think it does), transmission shifts decently(I've never driven stick before), AC works, sunroof works, all 4 windows go down via the hand crank.

I think it has a vacuum leak somewhere and the ignition key only works in the ignition.Front right door will not catch all the way. Interior needs to be cleaned up and drivers seat replaced. I also suspect the fuel tank sender may be gunked up since I drove it home almost 180 miles and the needle did not move.

I have never driven a 240D and boy is everyone right. They are slow but the 4 speed helps.

This is the replacement for my step dad's Aveo that bit the dust. I just need to clean it up, replace engine mounts, make sure the suspension is good, engine is strong, etc.

But, I do like it. I also named it Pancakes.
I estimate perhaps a third of used 240ds purchased have minor issues. Like the throttle linkages that make them more doggy than they really are.

In my past experience some previous owners drove them that way for a long time before selling them and not even aware of the problems. You want good injection pump base pressure, good functional throttle linkages, Valves set to specs. Clean fuel filters and tank screens. Without those four things being correct there are noticeable power reductions.

the right rear wheel also has some negative camber to it where as the drivers side rear does not.

I also believe the passenger side half shaft spewed most of its oil out since there is a nice wetspot on the body. Didn't smell like diesel

When mine was owned by one of the members... he brought it to the meet in Austin on a trailer...had lots of people try to do compression readings on it... first cylinder shows no compression... but it runs fine at 76 all day long and has always gotten 24 mpg...
The Turbo engines are more efficient... but in good shape with the four and manual ( and only the four speed ) I think you will be doing well to get 28.... but you really won't know till you try it...
If you can snag a five speed don't pass it up...

"Also note the VCV on the IP, a car with a manual doesnt need a VCV haha"

Haha- yes it does.

One of the "features" of the '82 and '83 240D was this weird intake manifold with a butterfly valve and egr. The VCV somehow has something to do with the vacuum that goes to the manifold or egr. I forget. I ripped that manifold off immediately when I bought mine and retrofitted the pre-'82 manifold which has none of that nonsense.

I have to believe that butterfly inhibits breathing, which we all know the 240D needs help with.

I have gotten as much as 35 mpg on mine in steady-state 50-55 mph cruising.
Looks like a very solid car for the money. I will be on the lookout for palomino seats for you locally.

Rick
