Cool, so that stuff on the valve cover stays. But its weird the engine has cruise control yet no stalk on the steering wheel.
Drivers side seat is in need of replacement, passenger side is probably ok. If anyone has a seat I just need the bottom and back, not the mounting frame. The armrest needs to be replaced as well. |

All that vacuum stuff on the valve cover can go with the old manifold.

the cruise stalk probably broke off at the column, its usual point of demise.

Joe,
Nice car. I love my 1977 240D and have owned 2 prior to this one. Great cars and they make you a better driver because you have to plan how do use the little power that they have and be situationaly aware when joining traffic. The are mechanicly very honest and with your experience will have no problems working on it. Door strikers are around ~ $30.00 and will solve your door problem. Also try lubricating it. That can help. And I like the wire and tape temporary solution someone offered.

It's great to see a lot (ok, a few) 4 speed 240D's getting bought by forum members lately. I bought mine thinking it'd be a short-term proposition, but think now that I might have a hard time letting it go.
Those door catches can be tricky to remove; you'll probably end up having to drill out the old screws (i.e. find new screws prior to replacement). I replaced one recently with a salvaged unit, but would probably go with new the next time due to the extra work involved in getting those bolts out. Mine also had 309K on the ticker when I bought it. Still runs great and performs as new 0-60 times.

Could be as simple as adjusting the first link(age) that comes out of the firewall (and/or replacing that firewall "bushing" thingamajig); that rod with the 2-prong fork end. There should be a slide adjustment that can take out some play between accelerator pedal and IP/Linkages which allows that rod to rotate slightly and remove excess play.

My 1977 does not have cruise, but it is a bare bones car. manual windows and seat. Did MB install Cruise in 4 speed cars back in the 70's and 80's??? I don't think they did.
Something about not being able to assure a speed cut down in the event of a needed downshift.

If there's cruise on the engine but no place for it inside the engine may be a replacement from another vehicle that did have cruise. Is it plugged into anything in the engine compartment?

If the right rear wheel has significant negative camber compared to the left, but the ride-height for both sides is still about even, check the right rear trailing arm for damage. Either bent, or more commonly - rusted internally and cracked.
