So you want to build a 4.6 blower/turbo application with junkyard diesel pistons and see if it holds together?

Ford chose to use hypereutectic pistons in the 4.6-liter engine in all applications except the ’99-up
Lightning 5.4, and the ‘03 Cobra, both which are equipped from the factory with forged slugs.

Well, it was just a thought to make something truly unique and on a budget. And, yeah, the boosted apps got forged pistons. The Lightnings still have crappy rods but the 03 and later cobras got forged rods and pistons. I am probably going to use some lightning pistons but I was just trying to think outside the box.

I was thinking you might come upon a wrecked lightning or cobra in the yard and could use those pistons I wasn't trying to rain on your parade

Didn't seem that way at all. Believe that when you approach people with unconventional ideas they do plenty of raining. That is till you are successful. Finding a lightning or 03 cobra in the yards I prowl isn't going to happen. But thanks to the interwebz I found some lightning pistons cheap.

Good luck. When I put a turbo on my brand new 1989 5.0 I know I didn't have a lot of support and I had to make lots of parts myself. I finally got the motor right when I upgraded the entire fuel system including a larger tank pickup, external pump and custom fuel lines then started breaking everything else like transmission and axles. Even with subframe connectors the car started splitting in half like Herbie the love bug. Have fun, I did. I would do it again.
